River Dee at Sandy Lane officially designated as a Bathing Water

We’re delighted to share the news that the River Dee at Sandy Lane has officially been designated as a Bathing Water, following a successful campaign led by the Clean Dee Campaign and supported by local groups, residents and river users.

Friends of Sandy Lane Park has been proud to play a part in the campaign, helping to count swimmers and river users, raise awareness locally and support the case for official designation.

The new status means that water quality at Sandy Lane will now be regularly monitored by the Environment Agency during the bathing season, with results published for the public to see. It also provides a framework for identifying sources of pollution and taking action to improve water quality.

The designation follows strong local support during the public consultation, with 557 of the 572 responses received supporting Bathing Water status for Sandy Lane.

This is an important step forward for everyone who enjoys the River Dee and for the long-term health of the river itself. Bathing Water designation does not mean that the river is automatically considered safe for swimming, but regular monitoring will give us a much clearer picture of its water quality and help drive improvements where they are needed.

A huge thank you to the Clean Dee Campaign and everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen.
