Community Consultation

Following a recent meeting with Andy James, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Parks Development Officer, a number of potential improvements to Sandy Lane Park have been identified. The plans below highlight areas that could be upgraded or improved across the site.

These proposals are being shared as part of a community consultation, and we would really value hearing your views. Your feedback will help us understand how people feel about the ideas and whether there are other suggestions we should consider. Suggestions for teenage provision would also be particularly welcome

Please review the areas highlighted below and share your thoughts using the form at the bottom of this page. Your input will help inform the next steps.

Key to areas to be upgraded:

A) Access paths & toilet block
B) Possible site for café concession
C) Stone semi-circle, tree bench
D) New access paths
E) Site for sauna trial
F) Self-closing gates to exit play area
G) Re-surface path
H) Match into surface G and define edges
I) As above, both sections to have play markings, plus replace dog waste bin with dalek

B ) Café concession

C ) Picnic Area / Chill-Out Zone

  • Suggestions welcome for suitable businesses that could operate a concession in the park.

  • Businesses to apply to CWaC for a licence to run the concession.

  • One concession to be chosen for a trial run.

  • Create access for the concession by replacing one concrete bollard with a lockable removable bollard.

D) New Access Path

A) Access, paths & toilet block

  • Cheshire West and Chester Council to replace the paths with matching surfaces and access.

  • Ramps to be added to the toilets.

  • The toilet block to be painted the same colour as the small brick building beside it.

  • The wall nearest the road to have “Welcome to Sandy Lane Park” and the Friends of Sandy Lane Park logo painted on it, plus a planter.

  • The flower bed to be moved from alongside the hedge to the front of the toilet block (creating a neater edge to the path and better growing conditions for the plants).

  • Embed natural rocks to create informal seating in a semi-circle by the tree.

  • Install a circular bench around the tree trunk.

E) Site for Sauna Trial

  • Create a path to delineate the edge of the fence line and chill-out zone, leading to the play park gate.

  • Plant small trees along the fence line to provide four-season interest and berries for wildlife.

  • Install a naturalistic fence to define the area, with a replacement lockable gate.

  • An existing licence is in place for three months.

  • The proposal could bring benefits to the health and wellbeing of the local community.

  • It may also help increase use of the park during the winter months.
